Oxford City Council's People and Equalities Department organised its first Youth Job Fair on Friday, 19 August 2011, in Oxford City Hall. The aim was to target 16-25 year olds specifically, but it was also open to all job seekers. Local employers, HR organisations and training providers were allocated stalls to display their wares.
Since inception, Guru Manyo Granth Sikh Centre (GMGSC) has aspired to provide a 'community training programme' for the multi-cultural community of Oxford, regardless of a person's religion, race, age, gender or sexual orientation.
During the course of the event, GMGSC agreed a collaborative working arrangement with Job Centre Plus. The joint venture will involve GMGSC running a Work Club, which will cater for the training needs of the people on the job market. The target population will include first time job seekers, people facing redundancy, mothers returning to work after a break and citizens of EC countries.
